Final Rosters Set For Global Hockey Legends For Hurricane Sandy Relief Game
Goalies Mark LaForest And Chico Resch Added To North American Squad That Will Face Russian Legends To Raise Money For The Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund
NEWARK, NJ (April 10, 2013) - Former Philadelphia Flyers, Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators goaltender Mark LaForest will be between the pipes and former New York Islanders, Flyers and New Jersey Devils goalie and current Devils color commentator Glenn ''Chico'' Resch will be behind the bench for the North American Legends team skating in this Saturday's Global Hockey Legends For Sandy Relief charity hockey game. LaForest and Resch are the latest additions to a roster of North American and Russian hockey legends that between them have played more than 20,000 NHL games, scored nearly 5,000 NHL goals and won more than 30 Stanley Cups.
These hockey stars will be taking the ice in the name of Hurricane Sandy Relief on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 1pm at Prudential Center. All proceeds from the game will support programs designed to address the unmet needs of New Jersey communities still dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
LaForest is a veteran of 103 NHL games over parts of six NHL seasons between 1983 and 1997. The two-time winner of the American Hockey League's ''Baz'' Bastien Memorial Award for best goaltender recently starred in the 2012 NHL Winter Classic Alumni Game as a member of the Philadelphia Flyers team.
Resch, best known for his color commentary during Devils broadcast on MSG Network, is a Stanley Cup champion with the Islanders in 1980 and a veteran of more than 500 NHL games. He will coach a squad of Devils alumni and NHL legends that includes Brendan Shanahan, Claude Lemieux, Brian Leetch, Stephane Richer, Ken Daneyko, Bruce Driver and Grant Marshall among others. They will be facing off against a talented squad of Russian stars that includes Vyacheslav Fetisov, Alexei Kasatonov, Alexey Yashin, Darius Kasparaitis and Valery Kamensky with Sergey Makarov behind the bench.
The players will participate in three 20-minute periods of on-ice action along with LIVE auctions of players' jerseys and autographed items during intermissions. Following the game, fans can attend a post-game autograph signing with select hockey legends.
Tickets for the game are on sale now through Ticketmaster at Ticketmaster.com, by charge by phone at 1-800-745-3000 or by visiting Prudential Center's Box Office during scheduled business hours. Lower level seating is priced at $20-$40 and VIP seats located on the glass are $100 per ticket and include a pass to a VIP reception following the game. All Ticketmaster service charges and credit card fees have been waived for this event.
