After three productive seasons with the Hurricanes, including two of which where he led all Carolina defensemen in scoring, Dougie Hamilton elected to sign a seven-year contract with the NJ Devils in the summer of 2021. "He is an elite offensive talent. (This) is a big addition to what we are building here in Jersey," Head Coach Lindy Ruff said at the time.
In their recent matchups this season, the Hurricanes secured a shoot out win over the Devils on January 1st, but the Devils came back to defeat Carolina in their game on January 10th. On March 12th, the Devils defeated the Hurricanes in a 3-0 win at home. Jesper Bratt scored twice while Vanecek shut out Carolina for three periods, stopping 32 shots on goal.
