HUDSON RIVER RIVALRY

The storied past of the NHL’s Metropolitan Division includes matchups between the New Jersey Devils and the New York Rangers spanning nearly 50 years and more than 250 total games. With the Rangers’ home rink, Madison Square Garden, just across the Hudson River from the Prudential Center, these “cross-river rivals” share a fierce history.

In their regular season matchups for 2022-23, the Devils edged the Rangers, winning 3 of their 4 games. In their final face off on March 30, the Devils bested the Rangers at home with a game-winning goal from Timo Meier.

The Devils have already met the Rangers in the postseason on seven different occasions, and both teams have bright futures on the horizon. Most recently, the Devils defeated the Rangers in the first round of the 2022-23 playoffs. After battling for seven games, the Devils shut out the Rangers in a 4-0 Game 7 victory at The Rock.
