Through more than 100 games against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Devils have a nearly 60% winning percentage against their Eastern Conference rival. This includes two series wins in the three postseason matchups between the teams, one of which came in 2003 en route to New Jersey's second Stanley Cup title.
The Devils vs. Lightning's first matchup of the season was on March 14th, with a final score of 4-1 Lightning. Damon Severson put the team on the board but Tampa Bay was opportunistic. In their second matchup of the season on March 16th at the Prudential Center, the Lightning snuck ahead with a shoot out win over the Devils. Newcomer Timo Meier scored two goals. The teams final matchup of the regular season was March 19th in Tampa, where the Devils beat the Lightning 5-2, with Jesper Bratt scoring a hat trick.
